another school year
Public school officially started here and I'm finding lately the urge to really get our rhythm going. We'll be starting our co-op classes next week and Amelia will be going to weekly classes (two days a week) the following week. We've been getting our supplies in order and the house cleaned and organized. It feels good to start the year with a a clean house. I've been making lots of trips to the thrift store and I feel especially lighter now!
For the next few weeks, we'll be gradually incorporating something new into the mix. We'll be trying ideas out, keeping what works and taking out what doesn't. Tweaking and making things manageable. When the end of summer gets here, I've thrown all the rules out the window and I'm in desperate need for order. Not that there's a lot of order in my house but I really feel more comfortable having a weekly rhythm. It's cliche but true. This week we've started a morning "circle time", a little reading and math.
Last night I woke up to the rain coming down. It's one of those sounds that makes me happy, especially living in the desert. And when I woke to the cool breeze coming through my window, it made we want to get out early and enjoy the weather. Everything blends together when you're homeschooling but one day a week we'll get outside the house for some some learning. Today was our science field trip day! That's what I decided I guess.
Not that we stop learning in the summer but this school year has officially started!

Although the sun's still shining in Seattle, the wind is cool. It makes me long for a new rhythm and routine. Me and my little guy -- we gotta find our groove. Haven't yet, although I'm stealing your idea to devote at least one day a week to getting out into nature.
ReplyDeleteIt feels like fall here Rachael! It's a nice change. I feel like hunkering down and crafting or something. :) I love Swan Lake because it's so close and there's no one ever there. Have a great weekend! xo
DeleteWe are just getting into the swing of things too, but dh took this week off for vacation, so we took a break as well and I am in organization and cleaning mode. It is so much easier and and emotionally calming to have school with a clean house.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's so emotionally calming. I'm really trying to have as little in my house as possible to keep it going! Everything has it's place and I've moved the crafting stuff where it's easily accessible. I hope you're having fun as a family this week! xoKyndale
Deletewow. what inspiring photos.
ReplyDeleteI think I need to hop off the computer now and take my kids birdwatching!

Thanks Cory. The swallows were swooping over the water. Those were the only birds we really saw but we heard of lot of them hiding in the cat-tails. I hope you have a productive weekend getting your house together! xo
Deleterhythm is magic. thanks for reminding me. and at first it's hard to get the beat sometimes, but we do start to get it eventually. rhythm is good magic. and then so is stepping out of it sometimes.
ReplyDeleteRhythm is totally magic. You have to commit to it. Otherwise it's not going to happen. I've got to commit. Love.
DeleteWhat a fabulous place - I love how you've captured it and it seems like such a great place of wide open space for calm and to discover...all rolled into one.

We are surrounded by space here. I guess that's why I like it. Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment! xo
DeleteWe need routine too. It's funny, when my girls were babies I was so proud that we didn't have routine--I fed on demand, they slept when tired, etc. But now that we homeschool I need to get us started in the morning with something or we get nothing done.
ReplyDeleteIt's true. I can't get anything done in the afternoon. If I do, it's just a rushed panic. It's much more calm in the morning. Then we can enjoy the rest of the day! xo
